Nicholas Dahlgren, MD

Dr. Nicholas Dahlgren is an Alabama native and graduated from Auburn University before earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine here in Birmingham. He completed his general surgery residency at Prisma Health–University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, where he received extensive training in advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He then completed an advanced Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at LSU Health New Orleans, specializing in the surgical treatment of obesity, revisional bariatric surgery, and foregut surgery.

Dr. Dahlgren is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He specializes in laparoscopic and robotic weight loss surgery including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, as well as SADI and revisional bariatric surgery.

He believes that bariatric surgery is much more than a weight loss operation—it is a powerful tool that can transform health, restore mobility, and improve quality of life. He is dedicated to educating, encouraging, and supporting patients through every stage of their weight loss journey to help them achieve durable, life-changing results.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Dahlgren enjoys spending time with his wife and children and enjoying the outdoors. Dr. Dahlgren is excited to serve the Birmingham community and looks forward to helping patients achieve healthier, happier lives.
